December, 1909 - Declared a fraud & swindler

December 22, 1909 The St. Louis Republic

"A childish attempt at cheating"
That was the verdict from the scientists in Copenhagen. Newspapers headlined it all over the world.

When Fred began his hoax he went to Denmark to announce his "achievement", not America. He used the friendly people of Copenhagen to "endorse" his claims. Then he went to America and made a fortune in lecture appearances, selling magazine stories, etc. But the scientists of Copenhagen wanted to see Fred's "proofs".

What he finally gave them was a magazine story. They were outraged and called it "impudent", immediately branding him a fraud.

Dr. Cook was ridiculed, even hated, in newspapers all around the world.
